The 403112 Carbide Tip Shank Kit features 3 replaceable carbide tips for the Ultra HD Shank (Shank not included in this kit)- These carbide blade tips are designed to remove hard goods with A National Ride-on Floor Scraper.
These carbide-tipped shanks are used for floors that are too hard or too thick for a steel blade to tear up. Their tips are made from black hardened tungsten carbide, which makes them significantly harder and sharper than steel blades. Carbide tipped blades are the hardest, sharpest, longest lasting blades available. These shanks are ideal for the removal of wood, any kind of stone or ceramic tile, epoxy floors, really tough thinset, paver tiles, Chattahoochee rock, AstroTurf and rubber.
At just 2″ wide, these replaceable tips are the smallest and most aggressive blades available for stone and epoxy floors. It’s small size concentrates the full power and pressure of your floor scraper into a small 2″ area to quickly tear through and break up your flooring, so you can come back with a wider blade for cleanup. Since this shank is angled and not straight, it can be more effective than a straight shank in getting under and tearing up wood planks and 12×12 or 18×18 tiles.
PLEASE NOTE: Attempting to resharpen a carbide blade using a metal wheel (that’s used to resharpen steel blades) will cause the carbide to fracture. Due to the nature of carbide, resharpening a carbide blade requires a special green wheel. While it is possible to do this with a hand grinder, it’s not recommended, as a single resharpen can take 30 minutes or more using such a small hand tool. A bench grinder can lower resharpening time for a carbide tip down to 5-10 minutes, depending on the blade width and how worn down it is. Carbide naturally takes longer to resharpen then a steel blade because it’s so much harder.
